HURRICANE KATRINA TAX
BENEFITS SIGNED BY PRESIDENT BUSH ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2005:
The Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of
2005 provides special tax incentives for businesses that hire Katrina
victims. Two specific portions of the law pertain to the Work
Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). There are operational, financial and tax
filing issues, some of which are date sensitive, that are important for
you to consider.
The first new law awards the WOTC
credit to ANY U.S. business that hires and starts a Katrina victim on or
before 12/31/05. The computation of the credit and the limits are the
same as the WOTC you now know. We would be glad to discuss the specific
documentation and calculation requirements for these credits with you at
866-753-3379.
A second more generous law awards the
WOTC credit to businesses that are in specific counties or parishes
designated by FEMA as being a Core Disaster Area(CDA). We
would be glad to help you determine if you are in a CDA, what the tax
ramifications are, and what documentation you need. Call us at
